Hello,

Today I just received Ayi's 5x5x4. He was kind enough to send me one of his first prototypes along with an edge piece that I never received for my 4x4x5 (I had originally ordered it as part of a large Cube4U order but Cube4U never got back to me. They never even sent me an email after contacting them four times). The turning quality is very very nice but I believe that the reason that he is displeased with the current 5x5x4 is that the pieces of it are not very even and some have irregular (but minor) dips and deformities. A good example is that the corners can wiggle a bit. Even so, the turning quality is very nice. Although it does not turn as fast as the 4x4x5 it far exceeds the expectations I would have for a prototype puzzle. Ayi was very helpful and kind in sending me an edge piece as well as one of his first prototypes. I believe that the official 5x5x4 will be released in a couple weeks (not 100% sure though).

Thanks Ayi!
Andrew

P.S. I would like to boast that I believe that this is the first prototype version in the U.S. or even maybe the western hemisphere. I believe there were 15 prototypes made and most of them were to be given to Chinese cubers to test. I can't say this for certain, but its always nice to know little things like these. :P

If any of you are interested, I will be posting up a review link for the 5x5x4 very soon.

This cube is one of the samples for mold testing.
I am not satisfied with them, and I had not wanted to sell these samples.
I just do not think it is a good idea to ship only one piece cross over the oceans.

The mold is rebuilt.
So we have to wait much more days.

Ayi has posted an update for his 5x5x4 on his website :P

It's nice to see that he has decided to cap all of the pieces to make a much more "finished" puzzle.

It looks very nice, much better than the last prototype. Hopefully we'll see this on on the market soon.

Well done, Ayi - it's looking great! I can't wait to place my order.

Your video is also very well done. I like the visual demonstration that the pieces were capped.

Ayi, do you possibly want to take preorders?
This could help to estimate the number of pieces you (or whoever) need to get manufactured.
I'll order one immediately :)

Thank you all for your support !

After two days of turning, now it runs much better than that on the video.
It need just a little improvement for easier adjustment and better hand feeling.
It will not take so much time, but depend on the schedule in factory.
Wait please.

Thanks again !

It seems like it's released (I clicked the link that says in big letters "4X4X5 NOW AVAILABLE"), so yay! Since I already got my V-Cube 7 early, I have room for one more thing on my birthday list, and it's down to either the Gear Cube or this. Actually, maybe I should make a poll. Yeah, I should do that.

Switch the numbers around a bit.

You ordered a 4x4x5, but this thread is about a 4x5x5. The 4x4x5 has been out for a while.

Oh really? I didn't actually order anything yet, fortunately.

All those 4s and 5s were confusing me :x

Yea, like maybe a 4x4x6 (since you've already made the 4x4x5)?

yes, 4x4x3, since it's kinda like the little brother to the 5x5x4.

Do you have an idea when it is going to be released?

It turns great. It's better than the 4x4x5 which is impressive since the 4x4x5 was already a great puzzle. I'll try to find the time to post a video tonight.

I just posted a video review.

In summary, the puzzle turns very well and the stickers are nicely placed. It's better than the 4x4x5 which is some feat considering the exceptional quality of that puzzle. If you can only buy one cuboid I'd recommend that it be this one.

I just got mine the other day and I really like it as well.
I will recommed it to anyone! Very nice product!

It does seem to click on the slice layers. Does everybody have these?
I am not talking about clicks like a Vcube 6, but more like from flash or gaps in the pieces.

Mine does the same thing. I think that it is like that on all of them though I'm not positive.

I also really like this cuboid. It is very fun to solve and turns very well. (even with the slight clicking)

Yeah I'm not sure what causes that but I think it's great because it seems to keep the puzzle aligned enough that it never locks up.

Today, I have received mine :D
18 days from Hongkong to Germany is not bad.
Out of the box it turns quite OK and I'm sure that after breaking the puzzle in turning will be really good.
I'll sticker it not using the application sheet but sticker by sticker. (Actually, I like stickering and at least for me the result is better this way).
Regarding the `clicking`: I would rather describe it as a little resistance in some positions. I share bmenrigh's opinion that it is there by intention and avoids internal misalignment.

BTW, has somebody disassembled it? I shall not take the risk.

Thank you Ayi and Nowstore!

EDIT: I like the stickers, colours are nice and I prefer the matt appearance. Just my opinion, I know "de gustibus non est disputandum" :)

Stickering with the applying sheet is not recommended! These stickers has to be placed quite precisely not to look bad or peel easily.
I tried and disassemble it a little bit. It seems like a straight forward Eastsheen 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 transform. It took me quite a while to put it back together although I only disassembled one corner section.
What seems to help is to assemble everything but the 5x5 face middle edge. Dont assemble the section with hidden parts last. that is next to impossible. I even gave up 2 times before realizing the other ending was possible was the way to go.
