Congratulations on bringing this to mass production! It's a shame you opted with the Eastsheen style mech though. :?

Awesome! I can't wait to get this. At what price do you intend to sell it for? If it's cheap enough I may get a few, to do some mods on and things. :)

Wow. Nice.
But can you stop turning it that fast? You are not supposed to infringe with the laws of physics. I would prefer the universe to stay intact a little longer.
Seriously though: Can it also cut corners a bit? I will have to get one either way. I am just curious and not experienced to tell from the mechanism pictures.

What are the size of these cubies? Are the the same size as other mass-produced puzzles (4x4x4, 5x5x5, etc)?

Wow, great to see another cuboid mass-produced! Can we get an image on the price range? Also, are you producing this yourself (like Kelvin did with the Qubami's) or did you have another company make it for you?
Again, great puzzle. I will definitely buy if it is within my price range.

Do you have any intention of producing the 5x5x4 on your website? It'd be great to own both a mass produced 4x4x5 and 5x5x4.

:D

Nice job!

Can you post some information about the companies you used for achieving mass production?

Yes, the corners and edges seem a little sharper, because I want to make it a neat apperance.
Now the mold is finished, it can not cut any more ...
Volitar Prime wrote:What are the size of these cubies? Are the the same size as other mass-produced puzzles (4x4x4, 5x5x5, etc)?
The block is 1.5cm and the cube is 6x6x7.5 cm.

It is not a good idea to talk about price here.
You will see it soon, I think the price is acceptable.

This is amazing news, congratulations and thank you. I connot believe the sheer amount of custom puzzles that have been/ are being mass produced. It's certainly made things easier on our wallets in some respects, but also harder on them in others :D

Tony, are you refering to the "killing" of the art of puzzle building through the production of custom puzzles?

If not what do you mean?

I think Tony is saying this is the end of traditional puzzle building and modding by hand as a real craft (for which he is practically famous), not the end of innovative puzzles designed by CAD and produced by 3D printing. So on that basis Oskar might well agree!

Anyway, back on topic: Congratulations on getting this mass produced - I wish you every success! :D

No, sorry I didn't mean that. The look of the puzzle is awesome! I don't even like much filleting on pieces.
What I meant was if you can turn a side while another one is not completely alined yet and "shortcut" the moves.
I was trying to find an example picture somewhere on the net really quit, but couldn't but hopefully my explenation is ok.

In hand mod one, this piece is not fit for middle layer.

In mess-production, all the blocks are 15mm.
It is based on eastsheen, but not copy eastsheen.
All the 3D models are rebuilt.

I don't get why some puzzle builders think of this as an end. First off, you can just keep building 4x4x5s for the fun of it. Second, think of all the great mods you will be able to make with this. I think Ayi should be congratulated by builders, he is offering them a new canvas.

Agreed! Especially for a cube shaped puzzle. From this you can make alot of new mods!

Bump, but probably not many have got the mass-produced 4x4x5 and a custom version.
Yesterday, I have received Ayi's 4x4x5 (from hkstore; $33.99 including shipping)
It has arrived assembled and I had to put the sticksrs on, only.

Size comparison with Garrett Ong's 4x4x5 (at the right with Cubesmith Logo)
322-11-01-30-8.jpg
As you can see, size is identical. Cubesmith stickers for a 4x4x4 will fit.
(The stickers it came with are not bad. On the custom puzzle I have put Cubesmith tiles on)

Turning

It is OK, but certainly Garrett's version turns much better. A rare case, where I can say honestly, the custom version turns really better. :)
322-11-01-30-1.jpg
322-11-01-30-1.jpg (51.06 KiB) Viewed 115 times
Probably, it would be better, if all cubies would be capped. I do not know if there is a technical reason that they have made this decision. Probably, they wanted to save costs?

The price of the Shapeway puzzle from Garrett is $160 (in WSF, whithout the stickers; )

I will not try to disassemble it and hope that I will not share the disintegrating experience others have described here

EDIT: I had mistaken the price of Garrett's puzzle, because I had got mine directly from him.
I can understand that Garrett is somehow disappointed. But that is life. Cheer up Garrett that you have made such a wonderful design. :D
Personally, I'm glad that both exist, because it gives people the chance to get this nice puzzle at a decent price.
I hope for Garrett, that still some may buy from him superior quality at an adequate price.
(You will understand correctly, that I do not say anything against Ayi's puzzle, just that Garrett's is better. Better than just good! :D = superior)

Thanks for your impartial appraisal !

Garrett's 445 is realy a good one.
His is based on V-cube and mine is based on Eastsheen.
I don't know if there are springs with his cube, my 445 has no spring.
Maybe his mechanism is better.

I think it is possible to turn the cube as smoothly as my video.
It needs some adjustments.
Try a little lube, maybe it will be better :)

If any question or suggestion, please let me know.
Thanks again !

Thank you very much for making this into production. I'm going to buy it! ;)

The stickers are bigger than I like, I think it's a lot better if you can watch a significative part of plastic.

Are you going to mass-produce other puzzles?

What about 5x5x4 and Cheese of your webpage, are you going to mass-produce them?

Mine came today and I stickered it with Cubesmith 4x4x4 stickers. You really want to use the 4x4x4 stickers as they are the perfect size. The cubies are the same size as on an Eastsheen 4x4x4 but the rounded edges are even smaller so there is more flat area. 5x5x5 stickers will be way too small.

No I'll have to buy a bunch more for some sticker mods...

I have no complaints about the turning of Ayi's 4x4x5 I bought. Other than it falling apart and me having trouble getting it back together it has been great. I have solved it at least 20 times since I re-assembled it without issue. It turns well.

I'm especially happy with the puzzle considering the price. Puzzles require a big investment and at ~$30 a 4x4x5 is a great bargain. I hope it does well enough that Ayi is motivated to produce a 5x5x4 too :) .

My 4x4x5 arrived last week and it's great. Mine catching quite a bit actually, especially if you're trying to just turn the outer layer by the corner with a single finger. But I would still recommend it to anyone who like their 3x3xN cuboids.

It isn't incredibly harder than 3x3xN cuboids. You only need a bit of intuition and 1-3 new algorithms. Solving is quite enjoyable.

Garrett's 445 is realy a good one.
Maybe, I could have expressed better that I think, this is a very good puzzle :) - I just happen to own the same cuboid in a superior custom version. :) :D

I don't know if there are springs with his cube, my 445 has no spring.
No, he has no springs.
ayi2000 wrote:...Try a little lube, maybe it will be better :)
I have lubed it and it turns really OK. To be honest, it is more a feeling of danger, having read the disintegration reports of others  On the other hand, I'm a careful turner and have no problems, where others report some.

Thanks again !
I can recommend the puzzle and I think the price is adequate. What about having caps on all cubies on the inside? (I'm not a builder, but can imagine that the occasional little catching could be avoided by caps. Maybe it has to do with the Eastsheen base, that some cubies are not completely closed?)

Hi, sorry for the bump. Thanks Konrad for the comparison. Though I must agree that the comparison is a little unfair, since my puzzle is fully lubed and broken in/adjusted while the factory version is not(I still think my mechanism is superior but I'm biased  ). Also the price for my DIY kit is actually $160 since you need to order 2 sets of parts and a core. The $75 is for one set only.

ayi2000, congratulations for getting this puzzle mass produced as I know many people have been wanting this puzzle. The price is relatively steep for a handbuilt or 3d-printed version, so having a cheaper alternative will definitely be good for most people. As a seller of custom 4x4x5s I'm a little bit disappointed but I hope my versions will retain their value as custom puzzles.

Sorry for my mistake  (I had bought it directly from Garrett and not through Shapeways.)

EDIT: I have edited my post above.

I forgot to post here. I got these puzzles for two weeks already. I really recommend them. Ayi did a great job. The puzzles turn great and are of very good quality. You can buy them with confidence! I think the price is a good one too.

If you are really pretentious I recommend you put the stickers one by one and not with the transfer sheet, as it is quite hard to center all the cubies perfectly.

Hope to see more puzzles from you, Ayi! :)

I received mine today. I ordered it on February 13th from Ayi's shop and it shipped the next day (great service!), so it only took two weeks and a day to get here. That't pretty impressive for CP these days. :D

I ordered a DIY version and I spent about an hour assembling it. It is not too difficult with the tutorial, although at times it's like building a house of cards since you have to place all the pieces before you can secure them in place by a screw. That's all part of the fun of getting a new puzzle, though, it's like two puzzles in one.

Stickers are very nice. They have a matte finish and blue and green are lighter than what we're normally used to. The effect is rather pleasing. Orange and green are slightly transparent (just like on Tuttminx), so you have to make sure you get no air bubbles when applying them. It comes with a transparent logo that I placed on the white side.

Turning is similar to Eastsheen 4x4x4, I think. I'm not sure, I chopped mine up a long time ago, so I cannot check  It does not cut corners, of course, but the turns are not problematic.

All in all, it's a wonderful puzzle. I cannot believe how only a few years ago I dreamt of some day owning a 2x2x3 or a 2x3x3, and now all these wonderful cuboids are available. I hope we get to see a 4x5x5 as well.

Thanks for your feedback !
It might be Feb.13

Other toys are in processing, models need more modifications.
I'll try to make them better.

My fingers are crossed for a 5x5x4 ;) Or 4x4x3.
